Karan Thapar and his stupid questions
Two of my friends called me last evening and said 'hey watch CNN-IBN, Thapar is screwing Jethmalani's trip!' I switched to IBN (I normally avoid the newsreaders of IBN. They give me ulcers.)
And there he was, Mr.Karan Thapar, attacking a visibly ruffled Mr.Jethmalani. Initially it was good fun, but later on, thanks to Thapar's dumb-ass questions, I got bored. What pissed me off was the way Thapar trivialized the judiciary by asking questions like 'did you use every trick in the book?' Agreed, our judiciary may not be the best; it may have some obvious ailments, but the point is it is all we got!
Thapar definitely had a hidden agenda: you don't ask the most famous criminal lawyer of the country questions like "Are there no standards that you set yourself, which you observe? Is there no Laxman-rekha your own personal morality demands that you respect? Will you do anything? Will you fall to any level?" and "Do you regret the collapse in your standing and you reputation in the eyes of the Indian people today?" First of all, there is no definite proof that Mr.Jethmalani has indeed crossed plumbed to deplorable depths. I mean hey even terrorists get lawyers to defend themselves. Does it make those lawyers terrorists too?
What about Manjunath's case? Did IBN or Thapar bother to follow it up? No! Unfortunately melodrama and emotion-milking works very well in this country. So Despite the fact that Thapar was illogical and at times downright stupid, we will still buy what he is dishing out. Why? Because we are suckers for melodrama. What a shame!
Also, if you made an atrocious allegation on me, does it mean that you are right, if I lost my temper? Karan, what are you on man? Must be real good stuff. Check this out:
Whether Mr.Jethmalani chooses clients to boost his popularity or not is none of our business. That's what media does every day so they don't have the fcuking right to talk about it. And I implore you Mr.Thapar, please don't ask questions like " Are you a man of character? Is this the behaviour of a man of character?" Even if Mr.RJ is not a man of character, what did you expect? He will confide in you that he is a character less prick? If he did confide and is honest about it, does it not make him a man of character you f***ing jerk? What is the purpose of such a question? You are playing a deliberate ploy to tarnish and malign someone. And, you are misleading the people of this country with your melodramatic nonsense. I pray that you guys in the media grow some spine real soon.
Rajdeep Sardesai, in the meantime, said there are two kinds of young people. Those who support Jessica Lal, Priyadarshini Mattoo etc and those who get drunk and run over people (via Nilu).
Oh well! Who is the lawyer that's fighting the case of Manjunath Rajdeep? When you pull your head out of your you-know-what, do let me know.

Ram Jethmalani: I refuse to be needled by a person like you. You are too small to needle me, for Gods sake!
Karan Thapar: And in which case, why get angry? Why get upset? Why you lose temper?

Very well said. Unfortunately, majority of us are suckers for melodrama and they will go thinking, "wah, Thapar ne kaise Jethmalani ka chaddi utara", not bothering to look at the sheer lack of logic in Thapar's arguments.
During any interview with Karan , look at his face, it shows some rudeness. Even 1 interview with P.Chidambaram, he was not letting PC to speak and intruding when PC was giving his answers. This Karan is a real shit.
He needs someone like Lallu who openly say, Please shutup and let me complete kind of statements. :).
Fact remains that Jethmalani did malign Jessica Lal's character, so well, he asked for what he got. Though yes, the repeated "Are you a man of character" and the like did sound rather ridiculous.
That?s was a brilliant write-up. Believe you me, there?re so many people who are really irritated by Karan Thapars way of interviewing. He has this ?know it all? attitude which can be a real pain to watch. I remember watching that show with aghast, Not that I am a fan of Mr. Jethmalani, but still whether he is man of character or not, is none?s business. Thank God you made a point; many of us felt frustrated/helpless watching that particular show.
I totally agree....Karan Thapar is a mere stupid ass :)
Totally agree.. karan thapar is real shit. I saw his interviews on youtube and real piece of shit man. I don't like him at all. He ask questions, but interupts immediately , then why do you want to interview people. As the author of this article said, he just creates melodrama for people. I just don't like him at all.
i agree that Karan does go overboard most of the times , but you know what people like these politicians and lawyers like Jethmalani need to be handled this way only. In hindi we have a saying "tedhi ungli se ghee nikalna", same logic applies here.
and one thing is for sure, u said in ur article that lawyers who defend the cases of terrorists are not terrorists..in my view they are even bigger criminals who are trying to prove terrorists innocent.
All hail! Karan's Criticizers!
This is why India, with the kind of potential we have is still a developing country ruined by the politicians and the lawyers who defend these politicians. Ofcourse the middle class can afford a maruti 800 instead of a scooter. Ofcourse india is developing for them but India is still bombed and terrorised, and still runs according to mob mentality. which is exactly what all of you have who don't understand the irritation and anger in people like Karan Thapar who are genuinely annnoyed by the system and dont want to take a no for an answer. We need ppl like him to raise questions, to demand answers there and then. Its enough now that ppl in power, ppl like jethmalani shy away from these questions and let indians wait for "something" to happen and more than that, we need to stop bloggers like you who write such rubbish in a fit of fury and spite. You are the youth of the nation and you are the one shutting up ppl like karan who are raising their voices for answers. I guess you are satisfied by our quality of life in which case I am happy for you as you really deseve the utter crap your government is giving you and for indians like us...we won't stop asking!
I read this quote somewhere. it defines all of you PERFECTLY:
MOB LAW IS THE MOST FORCIBLE EXPRESSION OF PUBLIC OPINION: IT SHOWS THAT SOCIETY IS ROTTEN TO THE CORE...
Bravo! you really even stand by it!
@ anon: Strange that such a self-righteous comment should come from someone that chooses to be anonymous. Anyway, the judiciary works like this: 1) the courts decide whether an accused is guilty or not. Not the media. 2) it is a citizen's right to have a lawye, the media can't question why a lawyer chose to defend an accused. It is their duty. 3) There is no fucking lakshman rekha in the courts. They work on the basis of witnesses and evidence. So all I can say is, your anger is misdirected. Think about it.
@sumankumar,
Oh may be that's why.. Ppl like Kasab can still get away with such a cozy sophisticated living at the expense of the Tax payers... Brewing new stories day and night in his castle..
