Tamil Brahmins are Like The Jews says Ashok Mitran
Ashok Mitran's rant on the experience of being a Brahmin in Tamil Nadu, is at best a cry of despair and is devoid of any hope. Mitran writes about how Brahmin's are a lost race in South India. While I don't subscribe to his philosophy nor do I agree with his latest rant, I'd like to tell Mitran that an accusation like this should be backed by solid evidence. Eloquent outbursts are good fun to read, but they make a bad case.
Also, the comparison with Jews is hilarious. Mr.Mitran, I don't think Tamil Brahmins have experienced 1% of what the Jews did. Get your history right sir.
That said, I do agree that the Brahmin Tamil, a unique dialect of Tamil that borrows a lot from Sanskrit, is almost dead. That makes me sad. I mean, after all, it is a unique language/dialect, and thus deserves better care.

Not all non-brahmins drink Mitran. And not all Brahmins are pious. Mitran's raving is almost senile; it lacks facts, logic, and appears to be a lame attempt at taking a potshot at 'others'.
By the way, Mr.Mitran, Jews are not Brahmins. They eat meat. But they have balls. That, only that, counts. I do not wish to comment on pontiffs, maths, and religion because I don't believe in them. But, if someone walks up to me and asks me to wear a Star of David (or the Namam!) on my shoulder, and vacate my home. I will probably ram my knee in my usurper's groin and go have a drink to calm myself.
I am stunned that Outlook published this trash.

So much for your complains agains Mitran for generalizing. What are you doing here - generalizing?

suman, i am not sure if you have ever stayed in Tamilnadu to experience the claustrophobic persecution that brahmins have undergone ever since the dravidian movement took shape. 40 years of so called dravdian reformism and they still blame the brahmins for the miseries of the oppressed. If you want to know the atrocities heaped on brahmins, please find out what used to happen in Kumbakonam in 1967. And if you wish to know how much balls Tamil Brahmins have, please take a count of the number of Tamilians Officers in the Armed Forces, You will find that more than 90 % of them are Brahmins. Why do dravidian tamils who hate brahmins not join the defence forces that frequently..
Maybe they dont have balls, or may be their nationalism itself is questionable........Try picking up a gun and standing on the border to find out....

what so ever is the intensity with which you discuss this issue, it is indeed a fact that brahmins are oppressed in our home state, we accept the difference in socio-cultural practises of muslims and christians but coming from brahmins it becomes an issue of contention.
the feelings are only fanned by the political leaders of tn. privately any one with fair amount of understanding, seeks out to a brahmin as a star of the society. a brahmin as a tenant, partner, friend are all welcome because of their self disciplined life styles. they are more mature citizens and i only wish we let them alone and not poke anymore fingers as to produce a violent organisation out of them too. this might be real bad, as with cyber and related brains they can create silent havocs.
I have seen the news that when a temple priest is alone, few culprits attacked him and cut the holy thread of the priest at thanjavur, tamilnadu, India. This is happened in almost all the towns, villages, cities, throughout Tamilnadu, in consecutive couple of days. What is the use of holy thread, if it is not in the shoulders of a Brahmin. Where the humanity goes. Why Brahmins, the Vedic People has to suffer through this kind of illegal actions. If a strong man disturbing a weak man, GOD punishes that strong man, which we all know. But you are right, in some ways Brahmins dont have the balls. Otherwise people like Chidambaram wouldnt suck up to the n number of DMK parties. Brahmins dont have the balls to put up a fight against the destruction of their culture, not just in TN, but the rest of India. The result today is that goonda parties rule India.

first of all, lets get it straight. brahmins have no say in the society today and are naive.
the 'oppression by brahmins' is total nonsense. if anyone in TN oppress the lower castes, its the other higher castes like thevars, gounders etc.

it is often said that caste based reservation is a compenastion for historical injustice by brahmins in lower caste, a totally useless proposition with no proof.
by the same card, will anyone agree to these:
1) moghul rule had put tax on hindus for being hindus. this is historical injustice on hindus by muslims. can we put special tax on indian muslims for this historical injustice?
2) dravidian parties have totally messed up the state by corrupt and quixotic governance. in future, this will be treated as a historical injustice by DK and DMK and so what punishment should be give the decendents of DK and DMK?
