End of an era: MS is no more.

M.S. Subbulakshmi, greatest Carnatic vocalist ever, passed away last Saturday. She has left a huge void in the Carnatic arena and I'd term it as the greatest loss that we have experienced in the recent times.
MS - as she was called affectionately called- stopped singing after her husband, Thiyagaraja Sadasivam, passed away in 1997.

I am not a big follower of Carnatic music, but without realizing that MS sang it, I used to wake up to Suprabatham all my childhood. Most of MS's works strike a chord, for I grew up listening to her (not knowing who the vocalist was!). The funny thing is I used to argue with some folks that lay people do not appreciate Carnatic music (while I used to wake up to MS, breakfast with Jesudas, and welcome dusk with Ghantasala's Bhagavad Gita!) as it is a complex form of music; but I take it back now. For her, the nightingale, M.S. Subbulakshmi. May her soul rest in peace.

And thanks to my grand ma and mom for involuntarily hooking me up to some divine music.

Wonder why not many bloggers blogged about it. I mean yes, Trisha is exciting and all... never mind!
