The Moral Police
Vijay's piece got me thinking. What's the difference between a Taliban and a state government in India that decides what is 'moral'? I do not understand how the cops - who live on the tax payers money - can tell me what's 'decent'? If I am found talking to my girlfriend in a park does that amount to 'indecent activities against the modesty of women'? Does that make the girl a whore? (Vijay says girls are being booked as 'sex workers'). Didn't we cry foul against Taliban? At least they were trying to impose their will upon a people that wasn't yet 'affected by the western culture'. Our policemen wear trousers and shirts; if you dont want western influence let their uniform be dhoti and mundu. Let their weapons be aruvaa, after all the 'gun' is western. Throw the 'western' car companies of your state. Ride bullock carts to the assembly. What the fuck is wrong with us! Why this repressed attitude? Now, I'd like to if the constitution allows this kind of oppression. Not that it matters. I just want the information for my general knowledge.
