Accessibility: News for the hearing impaired

None of the private news channels seem to care about accessibility for the disabled; remember our state-run Doordarshan's news for the hearing-impaired? Why wont they spare 30 minutes a week for the hearing-impaired? I do not know the economic repercussions of having such an initiative, but consider this: in the USA it is mandatory for Telecom service providers to offer Telecommunications device for the deaf and hearing impaired (TDD)(to comply with Section 508 and Section 255 of the Telecom act. I think similar government initiatives for television channels would help disabled people be informed. At least, news channels should pay some attention to the needs of the disabled. Is someone listening? But the crass, rampant commercialisation in private news channels, makes it impossible for me to believe that they are going to have the time, and the inclination for addressing the needs of the disabled. Well, that's just the cynical and paranoid me. Maybe things are not as bleak. What do you reckon?
